IV: On Authorship
Publication by Momentum Magazine

"Producing from a generative System (non-human/autonomous) the results acquire an unpredictable nature. The system reacts and responds to the input of information or stimuli with a certain freedom, since it makes decisions that would normally be made by a human being. These stimuli can be levels, frequencies, intensities, circumstantial data, etc. All this information becomes parameters that feed the sensitive system.

This action-reaction/input-output relationship is not very different from the basic way of relationship of living beings, which is explained as a reaction to external stimuli and allows them to obtain information from the environment, form decisions and elaborate a response.

Therefore, generative systems are capable of embedding natural behavior and organic logic in the very production process. The traditional creative subject becomes only an independent spectator of a process of natural structures and organic qualities, in which he has delegated the power of interpretation to the software or machine and has lost its control. The information, finally, uses a synaesthetic and organic (but anti-personal) system, nourished by the input-output relationship and reacting as if it was an organism, to materialize itself into a visual product.

Am I then the author of this generated image? Does the creation of the code grant me the authorship?"
